Hey guys, here I am again! I genuinely hope you’ve missed me, unlike my lecturers thanks to whom I had a lot more free time throughout the year compared to the average student. However, as my exams were approaching, and the last weeks of my internship required more of my time, I had to cut back on the only activity I actually want to keep in my life - writing. Anyway, you’ll start hearing more from me once again starting from today as I present you poem #15 out of the 18 that I intend to have in the poetry collection that I plan to publish later in the year. I hope you enjoy it, but keep in mind this is still a draft, so your opinion will be appreciated!
The Portrait
My artistry is typically well-regarded
But to the disappointment of my reader I confess
That all my work is but a replication
Of a painting over which I am obsessed.
I shoot it daily from a different angle,
Describe its beauty with some pretty words,
And recount the stories that the lady on the canvas Would've told if her lips had only moved.
My art's what binds our souls together
For it is my shadow passing through the lens
And caught onto the images you've seen
And the poetry I copy passes through my hands.
She stirs life into everything that I create,
While I provide a place for her to live and never cease
And that is how I make a masterpiece.
