Hey there!
Starting with an empty page is always difficult. Doubly so when it's the first of many and you've got to lay the foundations of a longer story.
What you're about to read is precisely this – the first "chapter", if you will, of Written by a Poem.
Yes, last time I shared The Preface, but it’s not directly related to the storyline. That’s why it’s a preface, you know…
Before we dive into it, here's something you may be curious about:
I always write with a particular place in mind. And in this case it's a jazz bar. Check it out if that would help you picture the setting.
Now, please enjoy :)
Behind the Line
Fading rhyme
The poem opens with a rhymed stanza and some lines continue to rhyme ever more subtly until none do. This was the effect I was after.
What I want to do throughout the whole collection is to add another layer of communicating the message and the feeling of my poems.
Nameless, why?
You may notice the main character is simply referred to as "the poet". But why? It's difficult to answer without spoiling things.
But I'll leave it as a note for you – pay attention to who/what I give names to and who/what remains unnamed.
What's the city described in the first lines?
As a continuation of my previous point, the city also remains unnamed. In this case the exact location doesn't really add up to the poem’s meaning. The description does.
Nevertheless, some of you will recognize the city through the opening lines. They contain a variation of Sofia’s motto (my hometown) – "Ever growing, never aging".

Although I write poetry in Bulgarian, for some reason it’s hard for me to read it in English. Not this one, though. Happy to see your choice about the saxophone 😊 BTW, great last line!
