Invitation of the Birds
Sitting in a curtained room alone,
In your mind a thousand thoughts revolve.
Music playing loudly from the phone
Hoping lyrics answer what you're trying to resolve.
Foreign voices, allowed to enter after knocking,
Shatter the leftovers of your peace to pieces.
They light the cigarettes you're smokingÂ
And fan the fire that you beg to cease.
You fill another glass of whiskey, though not smooth,
To keep you running laps inside your head.Â
By such behaviour, anxiety you try to soothe
Engaging in a ritual that summons it instead.
Close your windows for the winds that feed the whirl inside –
Don't get sucked into confining thoughts and words.
Go outside, observing Nature, and let it be your guide.
Tap pause and accept the invitation of the birds.
