Hey there,
I'm currently in full road-trip mode, doing back-to-back long weekends – last week to Florence, now setting off to somewhere a bit closer to home.
Just Rome-ing around, if you will.
Follow updates from the trips, including some poetry gems like this one, on either Notes or Instagram :)
It's not a coincidence that my character from "Written by a Poem" is also travelling in this latest entry.
Where to? Guess you'll have to stick around for the next poems to find out.
Anyway, without further ado, enjoy “Highway Tunes“!
Oh, and if you're new to Vanauthor, you might want to check out my previous entries from “Written by a Poem“ as there's a storyline.

Behind the Lines
If my character were to have a playlist for this road trip, what would it look like?
Lines by Giorgos Seferis that inspired me
1)
“The poem is everywhere. Your voice
sometimes travels beside it...”
Compare this to mine:
The engine's revs as a song sail,
An endless painting rides beside…
2)
. . . In the mirror how our love diminishes
Compare this to mine:
In the rear-view mirror
how past roads dissipate...
Poem fragmentation
I decided to take an approach which kind of resembles the random musings one might have while driving – unable to really stick to one particular thought and letting his mind jump around.
Last segment "road structure"
Anyone who has read my first poetry collection (available for free here), knows how I love to complement my text with appropriate structure to enhance the message.
That's just another example of the same, which is self-explanatory in this particular text – I've visualized the road through underscores ( _ ) to aid the feeling of two restraining lanes.
Notice how the road, both to its left and right side, is erased or respectively undrawn.
Remember this from earlier in the text:
“Drawn, erased, re-drawn: landscapes trail,
Road tirelessly sketches sights.”
That’s all, folks!
