Somewhere between the soft strums of a street musician and the lonely silence of a park bench, the fleeting notes work their magic to fill the empty space with love.
I wrote this song as small tribute to those who make ordinary places feel like something more, without ever needing the spotlight.
Let me also note that I made the music with the help of AI. Lyrics remain 100% written by me – the old-school way.
With that being said, please enjoy!
You can also find the song on most major streaming platforms (and maybe add it to a playlist… or a few 🙂). Here are the links to some of them:
Lyrics
Behind the Lines
Is Bobby a real person?
Yes and no. My character was inspired by a real musician about my age who performs in the park next to me every day in which the weather allows it. I often sit down to listen to him.
However, I don’t know neither his name nor his story, I just used his image to build a character in my head. Where does the name come from? Well, I was thinking of Bob Dylan. Hence, the line “Now, he is no Dylan…“
Initial Notes
Honestly, going back to my very first notes is sometimes quite amusing. The idea is still raw, naked and… embarassingly basic.
Here’s how it all started out in my personal diary:
“(A song that) paints the story of how a park musician makes the whole place better and filled with love.“
A personal rule I have
Never walk past a street musicians with the headphones on. I stop any song/podcast I’m playing, pay him some respect with my ears, and embrace the present moment!
Influences on the lyrics
There’s a few lines from other artists that inspired me while writing the lyrics to “Bobby’s Hat“. As per usual, they’re to be found in the opening lines of the song.
Here they are:
Marvin, he was a friend of mine
And he could sing his song, his heart in every line
- Bruce Springsteen, Nightshift
There's the same music every morning
Everyday train-train, the mechanical piano
- Joe Dassin, Piano mécanique (Translated from French)
Influences on the music
I didn’t have a particular song in mind while working on the music, but I did have one which helped me make the final touches – Take The Music by Jason Mraz. Hear that reggae influence during Verse 1? That’s where where the idea came from. I wanted to give the song the element of a light-hearted feel from the start.
That’s all, folks!
